I gave up on the Waupun Public Library. It's been about two weeks and I still didn't have a copy of Twilight. So, I broke down and bought the book. I read nine chapters the first two days I had it; I couldn't put it down.
I don't know what else to say about it. I don't analyze literature for the writing style and structure; I just look the story line.
Even though it took quite a few chapters to be sure that Edward is a vampire (even though the book description tells us he is), I learned a lot more in those few chapters about the type of vampire he is. It sets it up for events that happen later in the book.
I'm sure I'll finish the book before the end of the week. Jackie, have you started it yet?

Definately agree about the detail on Edward's nature. Very cool to see some more of the back story since vampires are very different from story to story. I like the mythology being used.
OK, I was buying a book on half.com for school tonight, and I saw Twilight for $3, so I ordered it. They promise two-day delivery, so stay tuned...
I'm finished. I loved it. I love Edward, Bella frustrates me at times, especially now as she longs to be a vampire as well.
I identified strongly with both Edward and Bella, Edward in his desire to be happy but knowing all along that it can't last; Bella for wanting to follow her emotions, to be happy with the blind love that is found only in youth (or inexperience).
As far as the mythology goes, I don't know squat about vampires. I don't understand where the incredible strength and speed come into play.
I love the author's playful style. Bella's voice is excellent, easy to follow. I think that much of the book's personal appeal is in how accepting Bella and Edward are of each other in each other's entirety.
Sooo, I made the mistake of reading the chapter teaser of "New Moon" without actually having it here to read, so NOW I have to go to Barnes and Nobel tonight. Thanks.
